Mary J. Blige Addresses Burger King Ad Controversy…

Yesterday afternoon, Mary J. Blige addressed her contentious Burger King ad with Hot 97′s Angie Martinez. Blige apologized and described feeling hurt after the quickly-pulled ad created backlash online.

I went online to listen to the remix I did with Fat Joe and I’m looking for that. I’m looking for “Another Round,” and all I could see is Burger King, and chicken, and buffoonery…and it just broke my heart. I want to apologize to everyone that was offended or thought that I would do something so disrespectful to our culture. I would never do anything like that purposely, I thought I was doing something right so forgive me.

For more of Mary’s thoughts on the controversy, you can listen to the entire interview here. (via The Fader…)

Video: Lana Del Rey, “National Anthem”…

In any early episode of Mad Men, Don Draper and crew created an ad concept for Playtex, asking women if they were a Marilyn or a Jackie. In the video for “National Anthem” Lana Del Rey bucks the concept of either/or, kicking off the clip with an interpretation of Monroe’s saucy “Happy Birthday Mr. President” to a JFK-portraying A$AP Rocky. Ultimately, Del Rey becomes Jackie; as for Rocky, well, we all know how this ends. (via The Fader…)

Video: Kreayshawn featuring V-Nasty, “Summertime”…

In advance of a promised official video, Kreayshawn has released a breezy, day-with-the-girls VHS showcase for “Summertime,” shot in LA by Uzi. The camcorder clip visually references the montage of tween-era home videos Kreayshawn shared recently; she wears tattoo necklaces in both. V-Nasty drops a hollered verse at 2:30, but doesn’t make an appearance. Kreayshawn’s major-label debut, Somethin Bout Kreay, drops August 14th via Columbia. Video: Kanye West featuring Big Sean, 2 Chainz and Pusha T, “Mercy”…

The video for Kanye West’s “Mercy” is a surprisingly sparse affair. A leather-clad crew including collaborators Big Sean, 2 Chainz and Pusha T dance in a nearly empty parking lot. The black and white clip may not have the intensity of West’s recent “No Church in the Wild” or the bright colors of the Enter the Void-referencing “All of the Lights,” but it’s still just as nice-looking as one would expect. Stream: The-Dream featuring Pusha T, “Dope Bitch”…

“Dope Bitch” is not like The-Dream and Pusha T’s last link-up, “Exodus 23:1″. There’s no vitriol at an unnamed target, just the kind of romance-for-the-saucy set that The-Dream is wont to bring to the table. The Love, IV: Diary of a Mad Man is slated for release on August 14th. (Stream and More via The Fader…)

Lil Wayne Cancels Nicki Minaj’s Summer Jam Appearance…

On Sunday, Nicki Minaj was slated to headline Hot 97’s Summer Jam concert, declaring in the morning that, “history will be made.” But the only thing that will go down in the books was the decision for Minaj to not take the stage. While introducing Kendrick Lamar at an outdoor pre-show, Hot 97 morning DJ Peter Rosenberg said on stage, “I see the real hip-hop heads sprinkled in here. I see them. I know there are some chicks here waiting to sing ‘Starships’ later—I’m not talking to y’all right now. Fuck that bullshit. Bullshit. I’m here to talk about real hip-hop shit.” This is not the first time that Rosenberg has spoken against “Starships.” In February, he compared the single to tracks by Ke$ha and Katy Perry and said, “I mean no disrespect to Nicki Minaj, but it was nice having you in hip-hop.” Soon after Rosenberg’s comments Sunday afternoon, Lil Wayne cancelled Minaj’s scheduled set, tweeting, “Young Money ain’t doing Summer Jam.” Nicki confirmed, saying, “I got above and beyond for my fans. But won’t ever go against Wayne’s word. What he says, goes.” Her on-stage guests were to include Cam’ron, Nas, Foxy Brown, Beenie Man, Lauryn Hill and a slew of her YMCMB family. Ultimately, Nas and Hill performed in place of Minaj.

Update 6/4/2012: Hot 97 DJ Funkmaster Flex had harsh words for Minaj during his Summer Jam set Sunday evening, saying “If you lost the fucking streets, it’s your fault. I’m dedicated to tearing you down.” Still, Flex has announced that she’ll appear on his radio show this evening at 7PM EST to hash things out… More via The Fader…
