M83 Scoring Sci-Fi Film Oblivion, Starring Tom Cruise…

M83’s Anthony Gonzalez will take his big-sounding music to even bigger screens. The Playlist reports that he’s set to write the score for Oblivion, a sci-fi film directed by Joseph Kosinski— the same guy who directed the Daft Punk-scored Tron: Legacy. The movie chronicles the journey of Jack Harper (played by Tom Cruise), one of the “last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete…”

"I’m not afraid to do my first soundtrack on a big Hollywood movie, with a big budget and a lot of pressure… I like challenges and it excites me more than frightens me," Gonzalez told the Playlist. (More via Pitchfork…)

Report: Chief Keef Makes NYC DebutPhotos and Review of the Chicago Phenom’s S.O.B.’s Show Last Night…

In January, the Chicago rapper Chief Keef was a 16-year-old South Side kid serving out a house-arrest sentence at his grandmother’s while his rap videos racked up local YouTube hits. Last night, Keef made his official New York debut at S.O.B.’s, the landing pad for many out-of-towner hip-hop debuts over the years, including, once upon a time, Kanye West’s.

Keef and West had crossed paths recently after Kanye scooped up Keef’s song “I Don’t Like” and pumped it full of guest rappers, extra synths, and choral “OH!’S,” thus rendering a street-rap hit officially radio-playable. It was this West-ian infusion of star power— along with recent news that Keef had signed a lucrative deal with Interscope Records— that might have been somewhat responsible for the swarm-the-front-door urgency outside S.O.B.’s. Watch a Four-Minute Trailer for “National Anthem”, Starring A$AP Rocky as JFK to Lana Del Rey’s Jackie…

As promised, Lana Del Rey enlisted A$AP Rocky to play JFK to her Jackie O in the new video for Born to Die cut “National Anthem”. Here’s a trailer (it’s four minutes long, but repeats the same images over and over again) for the video, directed by Anthony Mandler. “Some cool trippy shit, some real 2015 shit”, Rocky said about the video. “People are going to get it in three years, and that’s the whole purpose of it.” Can’t wait until 2015 comes and I can get on this level. See the Video Wayne Coyne Made With ‘Weirdos’ HOTT MT…

The members of Los Angeles psych-pop trio HOTT MT record under bizarre aliases, refer to their sound as “Thai gaze,” and seem to be inspired by the “teachings” of famous conspiracy theorist Milton William Cooper. (Their handle is an acronym for Hour of the Time Majesty Twelve) That’s already enough crazy to make a band memorable, but Ashi Dala, Spooky Tavi and Bad Bahd had weirder aspirations still, so in January, they packed up their instruments and drove to Oklahoma City, timing their trip so that they’d arrive at Wayne Coyne’s doorstep on the morning of the lead Flaming Lip’s 51st birthday. They brought him a copy of their newly finished album I Made This and requested a collaboration. (Video and More via SPIN…

Danny as a Little Kid, Snaggle Tooth, Bangs, and All…

Here’s the video for Danny Brown’s “Grown Up”, the airy single he released in March on Fool’s Gold/SCION A/V. Directed by Greg Brunkalla, it does a great job of rendering a small child-version of Danny, snaggle tooth/tiger hoodie/bangs and all. (Video via Pitchfork…)
