Lil Wayne Cancels Nicki Minaj’s Summer Jam Appearance…

On Sunday, Nicki Minaj was slated to headline Hot 97’s Summer Jam concert, declaring in the morning that, “history will be made.” But the only thing that will go down in the books was the decision for Minaj to not take the stage. While introducing Kendrick Lamar at an outdoor pre-show, Hot 97 morning DJ Peter Rosenberg said on stage, “I see the real hip-hop heads sprinkled in here. I see them. I know there are some chicks here waiting to sing ‘Starships’ later—I’m not talking to y’all right now. Fuck that bullshit. Bullshit. I’m here to talk about real hip-hop shit.” This is not the first time that Rosenberg has spoken against “Starships.” In February, he compared the single to tracks by Ke$ha and Katy Perry and said, “I mean no disrespect to Nicki Minaj, but it was nice having you in hip-hop.” Soon after Rosenberg’s comments Sunday afternoon, Lil Wayne cancelled Minaj’s scheduled set, tweeting, “Young Money ain’t doing Summer Jam.” Nicki confirmed, saying, “I got above and beyond for my fans. But won’t ever go against Wayne’s word. What he says, goes.” Her on-stage guests were to include Cam’ron, Nas, Foxy Brown, Beenie Man, Lauryn Hill and a slew of her YMCMB family. Ultimately, Nas and Hill performed in place of Minaj.

Update 6/4/2012: Hot 97 DJ Funkmaster Flex had harsh words for Minaj during his Summer Jam set Sunday evening, saying “If you lost the fucking streets, it’s your fault. I’m dedicated to tearing you down.” Still, Flex has announced that she’ll appear on his radio show this evening at 7PM EST to hash things out… More via The Fader…

Meek Mill Talks ‘Dreamchasers 2’ Mixtape, Nas Collabo & Roc Nation Deal…

When he isn’t in the studio or on the road, Meek Mill prefers to be in the streets. The 25-year-old rapper, known for his punctuated style, has taken his love of motocross bikes to the Internet through a partnership with iPhone app VIDDY, serving as a judge for a contest that ends on June 2.

For the competition, entrants can upload videos of themselves doing motocross bike tricks through viddy.com/MeekMill. The Maybach Music Group rapper will sort through the entries to determine the most skilled rider, who will take home a custom ETHIKA, Inc. custom motocross bike with an $8,500 value, as well as other prizes. According to the Philadelphia native, participating in the giveaway was a no-brainer based on his prior experience with bikes. (More via Billboard…)

Video: Nas, “Daughters”…

The Chris Robinson-directed video for Nas’ “Daughters” traces the 17 years since his daughter Destiny Jones was born as seen through her eyes, from cradle to cake-grabbing birthday party to teenage TwitPic scandal. FADER #74’s Soulja Boy cover makes an appearance in the video during those troubled teen years, handed off from Destiny to a girl friend while they hang out in bed around a cloud of smoke, nail polish, chips and MacBook glow. Kids today! Snacking, Instagramming and reading FADER. Thank goodness. (via The Fader…)

Nas Covers Complex’s June/July 2012 Issue!…

Nas and Complex go way back. How far back? You might not remember, but God’s Son actually appeared on the cover of Complex’s first-ever issue back in the Spring of 2002. A decade later, it’s only right that [Complex] reconnects with the NYC icon for the first issue after [their] blockbuster 10th Anniversary celebration. It’s the beginning of Complex’s second decade, and [they]’re taking it back to the essence.

2012 is also shaping up to be a new beginning for Nas, who’s fresh off a divorce and back in the studio finishing his tenth solo album Life Is Good, which is scheduled to drop this summer. He’s been blowing us away with his new music all year, from his rewind-worthy verse on “Triple Beam Dreams” to his astute fatherhood anthem “Daughters.” (More at Complex…)

Q&A: Hit-Boy on ‘Ni—as in Paris’ Success & His Own Rap Career…

Hit-Boy is living up to his name. The Southern California native (born Chauncey Hollis in Pasadena) co-produced “Ni**as in Paris,” the double-platinum hit from Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch the Throne. With another West track (“Way Too Cold”) under his belt, Hit-Boy is juggling various projects including West’s upcoming solo album, a G.O.O.D. Music set, as well as sessions with A$AP Rocky, Nas, Justin Bieber and Big Sean.

Hit-Boy grew up with music. His uncle, Rodney Benford, was a member of Troop, a group that scored two No. 1 R&B hits in 1990 with “Spread My Wings” and “All I Do Is Think of You.” Watching Bow Wow on TV prompted then-13-year-old Chauncey to pen his own raps. However, the fledgling rapper grew more enamored with crafting beats. His first placement, at 20 years old, was the track “Forever” on Jennifer Lopez’s Brave album, and he claimed his second big break collaborating on West’s “Christmas in Harlem” after meeting Kanye’s cousin, Ricky Anderson.

Signed to G.O.O.D. and Universal Music Publishing Group, Hit-Boy boasts a rapidly expanding discography, including tracks by Lil Wayne featuring Eminem (“Drop the World”), Kelly Rowland featuring Big Sean (“Lay It on Me”), Jennifer Hudson (“I Remember Me”), Pusha T (“My God”), Rihanna (“Watch N Learn”) and Joe Jonas (“Lighthouse”). Steam: Nas, “Daughters” (Prod. by No I.D.)…

Nas’ new No I.D.-produced track “Daughters” is not an ode to his own, Destiny, or daughters in general, but a song for fathers and the fret that comes with watching their little girls grow up. Nas empathizes with that stress, and openly raps about the gossiping that occurred when Destiny tweeted a picture of a table covered in condoms. Life is Good, his tenth studio album, is slated for release on July 17th. (Listen at The Fader…)

Original gangster and legendary rhyme-ripper Ice-T has long been directing his upcoming production, Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap, the world’s first documentary about the ins and outs about constructing uncut dopeness. A former drug dealer, known as ‘Freeway’ Rick Ross, has lost a bid in court to keep rapper Rick Ross from using his name.

Rick Ross recently revealed that his new album will entitled ‘God Forgives, I Don’t’. The album, which follows 2010’s ‘Teflon Don’, will be Ross’ fifth LP and is set for release later in the year.
