Video: Lana Del Rey, “National Anthem”…

In any early episode of Mad Men, Don Draper and crew created an ad concept for Playtex, asking women if they were a Marilyn or a Jackie. In the video for “National Anthem” Lana Del Rey bucks the concept of either/or, kicking off the clip with an interpretation of Monroe’s saucy “Happy Birthday Mr. President” to a JFK-portraying A$AP Rocky. Ultimately, Del Rey becomes Jackie; as for Rocky, well, we all know how this ends. (via The Fader…)

Watch a Four-Minute Trailer for “National Anthem”, Starring A$AP Rocky as JFK to Lana Del Rey’s Jackie…

As promised, Lana Del Rey enlisted A$AP Rocky to play JFK to her Jackie O in the new video for Born to Die cut “National Anthem”. Here’s a trailer (it’s four minutes long, but repeats the same images over and over again) for the video, directed by Anthony Mandler. “Some cool trippy shit, some real 2015 shit”, Rocky said about the video. “People are going to get it in three years, and that’s the whole purpose of it.” Can’t wait until 2015 comes and I can get on this level. Video: Kreayshawn featuring V-Nasty, “Summertime”…

In advance of a promised official video, Kreayshawn has released a breezy, day-with-the-girls VHS showcase for “Summertime,” shot in LA by Uzi. The camcorder clip visually references the montage of tween-era home videos Kreayshawn shared recently; she wears tattoo necklaces in both. V-Nasty drops a hollered verse at 2:30, but doesn’t make an appearance. Kreayshawn’s major-label debut, Somethin Bout Kreay, drops August 14th via Columbia. Watch Deadmau5’s Bradbury-Inspired Video for ‘The Veldt’…

As if to apologize for his umpteenth Tumblr megavent over the weekend, EDM lightning rod Deadmau5 just dropped this extraordinary — and extraordinarily Disney-inspired — clip for his recent Bradbury-nodding, fan collaboration track “The Veldt.”

Deadau5 premiered the instrumental version of “The Veldt” three months ago, claiming to have been so inspired by Ray Bradbury’s 1950 dystopian short story of the same name, which serves as an admonition against the dangers of modern technology, that he created the three-minute soundtrack in tribute to the writer, who died June 5 following a “lengthy illness” at age 91. See the Video Wayne Coyne Made With ‘Weirdos’ HOTT MT…

The members of Los Angeles psych-pop trio HOTT MT record under bizarre aliases, refer to their sound as “Thai gaze,” and seem to be inspired by the “teachings” of famous conspiracy theorist Milton William Cooper. (Their handle is an acronym for Hour of the Time Majesty Twelve) That’s already enough crazy to make a band memorable, but Ashi Dala, Spooky Tavi and Bad Bahd had weirder aspirations still, so in January, they packed up their instruments and drove to Oklahoma City, timing their trip so that they’d arrive at Wayne Coyne’s doorstep on the morning of the lead Flaming Lip’s 51st birthday. They brought him a copy of their newly finished album I Made This and requested a collaboration. (Video and More via SPIN…

Video: Kanye West featuring Big Sean, 2 Chainz and Pusha T, “Mercy”…

The video for Kanye West’s “Mercy” is a surprisingly sparse affair. A leather-clad crew including collaborators Big Sean, 2 Chainz and Pusha T dance in a nearly empty parking lot. The black and white clip may not have the intensity of West’s recent “No Church in the Wild” or the bright colors of the Enter the Void-referencing “All of the Lights,” but it’s still just as nice-looking as one would expect. Danny as a Little Kid, Snaggle Tooth, Bangs, and All…

Here’s the video for Danny Brown’s “Grown Up”, the airy single he released in March on Fool’s Gold/SCION A/V. Directed by Greg Brunkalla, it does a great job of rendering a small child-version of Danny, snaggle tooth/tiger hoodie/bangs and all. (Video via Pitchfork…)

A$AP Rocky and ScHoolboy Q Rap Upside Down on “Brand New Guy”
Emcees Flex Hard in Dark Parking Lots…

In their new video for “Brand New Guy,” rising rappers A$AP Rocky and ScHoolboy Q combine their aggressive flows over a dizzying, hypnotic beat. Bringing Harlem and L.A. together, the two emcees rap heavily in the dark, surrounded by their crew in dimly lit images of New York. They also rap upside down, hanging like bats while they spit their lines. Though the clip pulls few tricks, its menacing vibe is a nice fit for the track.

"Brand New Guy" is on A$AP Rocky’s 2011 mixtape, LiveLoveA$AP. (via Rolling Stone…)

Coldplay and Rihanna Make Second Culturally Confused ‘Princess of China’ Video…

Can we agree now that the existence of a collaboration between Coldplay and Rihanna is more interesting than the song itself? The Barbados-born pop singer’s presence on the Mylo Xyloto track list helped set the tone for the British arena-rockers’ latest album, which has enough day-glo synths and crushing R&B beats to find a home on circa-2012 Top 40 radio, where Adele and Gotye are the recent exceptions that prove the club-friendly rule. The actual track, the shimmering “Princess of China” — which, let’s not forget, the co-conspirators performed at this year’s Grammy Awards — wasn’t even the most Rihanna-like track on the album, as our reviewer smartly noted when the record came out this past fall (that was the excellent “Paradise”).

All these months later, it’s still unclear what the song has to do with the country of its title (“China” appears nowhere in the lyrics), and the just-released video hardly clears matters up. (Video and More via SPIN…)
