On the Charts: Rihanna’s ‘Ship’ Sails…SEVEN DAYS OF RIHANNA VIRALITY: Rihanna isn’t at the top of the charts at the moment, at least in the traditional Billboard sort of way, but her publicity blitz of the past week is paying off in serious viral action. In addition to doing prominent interviews for her upcoming movie Battleship, her racy video for “Where Have You Been” came out on April 30th and has logged more than 29.5 million views – enough for an 88-spot surge on the Ultimate Chart, which measures Internet criteria. The new single lands at Number Eight, and “We Found Love” climbs 15 slots to Number 32. (More at Rolling Stone…)

Exclusive: Whitney Houston To Be Honored in Next ‘VH1 Divas’ Tribute…

VH1 will pay tribute to Whitney Houston for its next installment of “VH1 Divas,” Billboard has learned. The network will tape the performance in Los Angeles in December, with Houston’s longtime musical director Rickey Minor on board as executive producer. No artists have been confirmed for the tribute to Houston, a three-time performer on “Divas” in 1999, 2002 and 2003.

The tribute has already received the blessing of Houston’s family and her label partners at Sony. “We all felt that if any show could pay tribute to Whitney’s music, it would be ‘Divas,’” VH1 president Tom Calderone tells Billboard. “December felt like enough time where it wouldn’t be sad anymore, you’d want to celebrate her music.” (Read More at Billboard…)

Chris Brown to Launch His Own Range of Toys ‘Dum English’…

Controversy magnet Chris Brown has attempted to soften his public image by launching a range of toys.

The singer was sentenced to five years probation following his assault of his then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009, and earlier this year a court rejected his plea to end it early, but he is now trying to score some more positive media attention, reports Billboard.

The singer, who also bizarrely advertised two pitbull puppies for sale earlier this week, has collaborated with artist Ron English to launch the range, which is fittingly called Dum English.

Among Dum English’s offerings will be a toy necklace chain, which retails for $75 and a 10”vinyl figure, which will cost $140. They will also try and flog four-foot life-size fiberglass sculptures for a staggering $20,000. (Read More at NME…)

Beyonce’s First Tweet Causes Social Storm…

Beyonce is the biggest gainer on this week’s Billboard Social 50 chart, making a massive jump from No. 49 to claim the No. 17 spot after a frenzy of media activity and social buzz following the launch of the pop star’s new Web presence.

The Social 50 chart ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, using a formula that blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays.

The launch of the Beyonce’s official Web site (beyonce.com) on April 5 sent the social world into a tizzy. Her new site — powered in part by Tumblr — was announced the same day courtesy of the diva’s first Tweet (@beyonce). Her Twitter account had previously been the most-followed account without a single Tweet, with nearly 4 million followers. While Beyonce has had the account for over five years, she never said a peep until last week. And when fans have been waiting that long — you know it’s going to cause a stir. A$AP Rocky Calls Lana Del Rey His “Dream Girl,” Working With Santigold…
"I first had a crush on her from seeing her on the Internet."

Billboard’s hip-hop blog The Juice recently spoke with A$AP Rocky about his collaboration with Lana Del Rey on “Ridin’”. There seemed to be some mutual admiration within the song itself— if you recall, A$AP raps, “Lana, that’s my bitch/ You could tell by the swagga and the lips.” But that was only the tip of the iceberg. A$AP says Lana is the girl of his dreams:

You didn’t know about me being a huge Lana Del Rey fan? That’s all I kept talking about all winter. I first had a crush on her from seeing her on the Internet— I fell in love with her voice the first time I heard it. I probably heard it in July, August for the first time, I think it was “Blue Jeans.” And from then on, I’m like…I love her!

Last February, producer Jeff Bhasker was in New York working on Beyoncé’s 4. For nearly three months, he had been getting calls from John Janick, president/CEO of Fueled by Ramen and co-president of Elektra, about a New York band called fun., whose singer, Nate Ruess, desperately wanted to work with him. Bhasker, generally known for his high-profile work on hip-hop projects like Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Watch the Throne,” took his time returning the calls. “I kind of blew them off actually,” Bhasker says today. “It wasn’t until I was in New York working that Beyoncé album that someone from my team said, ‘Fun. is in New York. Can you just meet with them quickly?’” (Read More HERE…)
